FIGHT OR GIVE UP ON SOTOMAYOR?

The Media - and some conservatives - tell us we should not fight the supreme court nomination of Sotomayor - you'd better check the logic.

By Franklin Pierce

If you've been following the debate over the nomination of Sotomayor to the supreme court, you've heard two main story lines.  First, we've heard about how she made an "poor choice of words" to an audience during a lecture in 2001.  "I would hope," she said, "that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."  This of course, by definition, is racism, and should be grounds to exclude her from the Supreme Court.  Imagine if John Roberts had said in one of his speeches that he thought he could make better decisions than a black woman, simply because he was a white male.  He'd have been crucified.  So why isn't Sotomayor crucified?  You know why.  But I digress...

The second story line we've heard is that the Republicans should not even put up a fight over this nominee for fear of alienating the Hispanic vote.  Who's put forth this idea?  Why the main stream media, of course - and unfortunately, a few gutless RINO 'moderate' republicans.  Let's examine just the ridiculousness of this logic.

First, let's put on our memory caps and remember back to when Clarence Thomas was nominated to the Supreme Court.  Did the media or democrats worry about offending Blacks if they challenged the nomination of Thomas?  Not only did they not worry about it, they went after Thomas with a vengeance.  Remember Anita Hill?  Or how about when Miguel Estrada was nominated to a Federal Court.  Did the media or democrats worry about alienating Hispanics.  Again - No!  They went after him no holds barred.

So why should Republicans worry about alienating anyone by challenging democrat nominations?  They shouldn't.  It's an idea floated by the mainstream media and democrats.  If we follow this insane logic through to its conclusion, then the Republicans shouldn't fight on any issue for fear of offending Blacks, Hispanics, or any other minority.  They should just surrender to the democrats and let the democrats pass any law or nomination they like.

Don't fall for it folks.  Not only should the Republicans fight, they should come out fighting with both guns blazing.  They should go on the offensive and point out the democrat and mainstream media hypocrisy about Sotomayer's racist remarks, and how she is not qualified to be a supreme court judge.  Now grow a backbone and get out their and fight Repubs.
